"Canines & Guardians was born out of my deep love for dogs and my desire to make a difference in the quality of their lives. Every day I try to accomplish this in my training business by teaching you, the client, how to better communicate with your pet. This translates into you learning how to train your dog more effectively... which translates into having a stronger bond between you and your bet and an improved quality of life... for both!" |

My Philosophy: My Methodology: Services: |
| In the contemporary world of dogs, the word "guardian" is replacing the word "owner". The guardian language reflects and supports the value of dogs and gives them the respect they deserve. ![]() |
| Testimonials from satisfied clients: |
| “Sindy is a wonderful trainer who has an excellent rapport with both dogs and humans. She uses only positive methods. Her kindness, clear direction and firm boundaries have really worked with our two labs. Our dogs are a part of our family and, since seeing Sindy, they have become much more well-mannered, both inside and outside of the house. We highly recommend her if someone needs a trainer.” Janice & Larry Doochin - Franklin, Tennessee |
| "By implementing Sindy Scalfi’s positive training protocol, my dog Paka, who has suffered from severe separation/frustration anxiety, can now stay at home by himself without chewing the door molding and without showing signs of panic and fear when I return. For Paka and me, this is practically a miracle. Sindy is an incredibly capable and very caring dog trainer… or should I say… people trainer." Roberta Schiller - Nashville, Tennessee |

Sindy graduated from Hollins College in 1977 with a BA in Studio Art. In the mid-nineties, her passion for animals began to steal her attention. Sindy began making the transition from a focus on music to her other love…. animals…particularly dogs. She wanted to actively help make their lives better. Knowing that training allows a dog’s value to be more easily recognized, and as a result more highly regarded by all, she set out to learn as much as she could about it. Sindy founded her positive training business, Canines and Guardians, out of her deep love for dogs and her desire to help people better understand them. Sindy began her career by studying with Pat Miller, author of The Power of Positive Dog Training and Positive Perspectives and continues to attend training and behavior seminars to further her education. She became a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT) in 2005. In addition to her private in-home training and small group classes, Sindy has worked for several years with Emmylou Harris’ Bonaparte’s Retreat where homeless dogs are taken in and given the very best chance to be adopted by loving, responsible guardians. Her latest educational venture in 2005/2006 was traveling to Africa to observe animal behavior with Patricia McConnell, Ph.D., author of The Other End of the Leash.
